Forever In Our Hearts

Martha Jones: A Life of Faith, Family, and Service

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Martha Jones a devoted Christian, mother, and friend, who entered eternal rest on Tues, October 7, 2025, at Brookdale University Hospital.

Known for her unwavering faith, boundless compassion, and steadfast commitment to serving others, Martha was a beacon of light in her family, church, and community. Her life was a testament to grace, humility, and the transformative power of prayer.

Her Story

Born on October 11, 1938, in Barnwell County, South Carolina, Martha Jones was destined to live a life marked by love, resilience, and unwavering faith. The daughter of the late Maggie Moye Allen and Reverend Elija Allen, Martha was raised in a home where spiritual values and community service were deeply rooted. Her father’s ministry and her mother’s unwavering fortitude shaped Martha into a woman of strength, conviction, and grace.

At the tender age of 17, Martha married Ferman Jones Jr. on October 22, 1955, in Brooklyn, New York. Their union was one of deep devotion and partnership. Ferman, a proud veteran of the United States Army, served his country with honor, and Martha stood faithfully by his side, supporting him throughout their life together. As a stay-at-home wife, she poured her heart into raising their two children.

After her husband’s passing in 1982, Martha embraced a new chapter with grace and determination. She became a School Aide and later served as PTA President at P.S. 150, the neighborhood school, where she not only supported the education of her grandchildren but also became a beloved figure in the local school community. Her leadership and nurturing presence helped shape the lives of countless children.

Martha’s spiritual journey deepened under the guidance of Reverend Leon Scott at Capernaum Baptist Church. On May 29, 1994, she joined the Deaconess Board, where she served faithfully until her untimely passing. Her dedication to the church was recognized on March 8, 1998, when she was awarded a plaque by the founding pastor for her unwavering support and commitment to the ministry. Her faith was not just personal—it was active, visible, and inspiring to all who knew her.

In 1997, Martha’s contributions extended beyond the church and school. She was honored by School District 23 for her continued support to the District Advisory Council, a testament to her tireless advocacy for education and community development.

Martha was also a longstanding member of the Stars of Faith Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star (O.E.S.), where she participated in fundraising events and initiatives that uplifted her community. Her involvement in O.E.S. reflected her belief in service, sisterhood and brotherhood, and the power of collective action.

Martha Jones’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of faith, family, and service. She leaves behind her two beloved children, Barbara Hughes and Ferman (Pat) Jones III; ten cherished grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Her legacy lives on in each of them, and in the countless lives she touched through her work, worship, and witness.

Her story is one of warmth and perseverance, reflecting the values that shaped her life and the love she so freely gave. Martha was a Woman of God in every sense—graceful, strong, and deeply rooted in love.
